The Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning (RMCL)

was established in 1979 as a non-profit, non-sectarian registered society. Its objective is to create greater awareness of the timeless heritage and culture of India, with particular focus on the life and teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. The Govt. of India has recognized it as one of the premier cultural organizations of India.

The Centre is closely linked to Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai and has the full support of its President, Sri V.S.Ramanan.


The vision of RMCL is ‘Ramana for all’.

This is because Ramana embodies the very essence of Indian Heritage which is also the acme of this Heritage. The essence of Indian Heritage reveals that Self-Knowledge is the highest purpose of human life and that it is a state of natural happiness available to all with no distinctions whatsoever. Ramana’s path to Self-Knowledge is simple, direct and perfectly suited for the modern way of life and its hectic pace. Hence the need of the hour is to take Ramana to all, a need which RMCL strives to meet.


The facilities and activities of Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning are multifarious in keeping with its vision of Ramana for All.

The Shrine and Meditation Centre

near Mekhri Circle at Bangalore, a spiritual oasis for the seekers of truth and a haven for all those seeking relief from the stress and burdens of daily life. A refreshing green space for lovers of nature with squirrels playing around plentifully.

Ramana Heritage Auditorium

The Centre has constructed and maintains an auditorium of 400 seats well suited for cultural events, situated in Sanjaynagar. The Centre holds its cultural events here and the auditorium is also open to the public for cultural activities. The Centre plans to make this one of the important cultural hubs of North Bengaluru.

The Education Wing of RMCL

has a wide spread program to cover the needs of all. This wing includesThe Ramana Waya monthly magazine.


It has published over 150 books in English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Nearly, 200 Audio CD’s containing classical, light classical, folk music and traditional Sanskrit hymns, tamil chants, rendered by eminent artistes, as well as lectures and talks recorded during the workshops and seminars. Video DVD’s of dance ballets, TV serial and audio-visual shows.

Seminars, Meditation Workshops, Lectures, Classes

RMCL has conducted 35 National Seminars and 3 International seminars, in which eminent people from different walks of life have participated. Multiple one day and two day Meditation workshops are conducted annually. Weekly talks and classes are also held.

Academic Courses

The Centre has been recognised by the Tumkur University and authorised to accept the registration of scholars for Ph.D in Ramana Studies in the inter-disciplinary areas of English, Kannada, Sanskrit, Fine Arts (Dance, Drama, Music), Economics, Sociology and Business Administration. The Centre hopes to expand the areas to include the disciplines of Psychology and Environmental Science as well. RMCL is also developing a course for undergraduates in value education based on the teachings of Ramana Maharshi.

The Cultural Wing of RMCL has a large range of activities

Cultural festivals

300 Cultural festivals have been held in major cities of India. The major annual festivals are: The National Festival, The Enlightenment Festival, Ramana Nruthya Vaibhava (classical dance fest), Ramana Sangeetha Vaibhava (classical music fest), Spring, Summer, Winter and Navarathri Festivals etc,.


700 music concerts of Devotional music through Ramananjali led by Smt. Sulochana Natarajan and other music gurus have been organized by the Centre and Karnatic Classical concerts by leading artistes like Maharajapuram Santhanam, D K Jayaraman, H K Narayana, Mandolin U Srinivas, Rajkumar Bharathi and others. The Centre has a special music website www.ramanamusic.com.


75 Dance Ballets produced by the centre on the life and teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and various significant aspects of Indian Heritage like Self-knowledge, search for peace, compassion and universal harmony. A special feature of these ballets is the multi-media visual presentations. 250 Classical Dance performances have been conducted so far by leading exponents like Dr. Padma Subramanyam, Smt Chitra Visweshwaran, Dr. Ambika Kameshwar and others.

Training programmes

Regular classes are conducted at Ramana Maharshi Heritage Building in Karnatic Classical Music, Classical Dance, Fine Arts, Ramana Bala Kendra and Yoga. Summer Camps, Winter Camps and Talent Fests are held for children of all ages.
